Cat Food?

I ran across this blog post at A Malaysian Kitchen in Manchester, the UK. Hazza saw caged cats in a market place in Malaysia. Why are the cats there? Are they pets? Are they for sale? Are they there for people to eat? Hazza, who is of Malaysian origin himself, has never heard of people eating cats, and me, I have never heard of anyone eating cats. Eating fish, chicken, duck, turkey, even kangaroo seems to be ok, but not cat! This gives a whole new meaning to "Cat Food".

Malaysians don’t eat cats (although they eat monitor lizard, swamptoad, musang (a sort of civet), hedgehog and practically everything else they can find in the wild). These cats are either pets for sale, or the stall owners own pets. Unfortunately many Malaysians still think it’s perfectly fine to cage an animal all of its life. They don’t see that animals have needs and feelings. Luckily there are many locals now working for better treatment of animals so hopefully this attitude will die out by the next generation.

Ok! That is good! They are pets :) Cages look kind of too small, but still they are pets. As Hazza said, they were fat, so they were getting fed at least. I suppose, it is better than being abandoned on the street to be killed by cars, starve and catch diseases.

I hope they're not about to get eaten! You hear the stories about cats and dogs being eaten over the world ... I wonder how much is true?

Either way, I hope the cats get out of the cages soon - I agree that the cages are too small!

Nice to hear that they are not about to eaten. I hope that if they are pets for sale, then somebody adopts them soon so that they leave this cage for a wonderful furrever home.
